SANCY PUY
This 1,886-meter-high puy, located in Mont-Dore, is the highest point of the Dore Mountains and of the Massif Central.
The old puy de la Croix became then puy de Saint-Sixte, origin of the current name. It is the highest point of the Dore mountains and the Massif Central. From the top of its 1,886 m, it could have been erected as a symbol of the department, in the place of its little brother the Puy de Dôme. But Gauthier de Biauzat wanted it otherwise, for fear that the Mont d'Or - as it was called at the time - would become the Eldorado of Auvergne. This does not prevent visitors from coming in great numbers to admire this ancient volcanic chimney eroded by glaciers millions of years ago.
