The saint's tomb, where the body no longer rests (the remains are said to have been transferred to Bari, Italy), has become a place of pilgrimage. You will see many pilgrims, many of them Russians, gathering there. The original church dates from the 3rd century, but was rebuilt in 1043 by Constantine IX. In 1862, Tsar Nicholas I restored the building by altering its Byzantine rhythm. The sarcophagus to the left of the entrance is not considered authentic. Here you can see some fragments of beautiful mosaics and interesting murals.
