The rocky outcrop where the acropolis used to be is dominated by an Ottoman fortress, the 19th century refuge of Ali the Bloodthirsty. Steep paths lead to the rock-sided tombs. The beautifully carved three-door pediment of Bellerophon is reminiscent of a temple. A lion and a leopard are guarding the entrance. The path to the citadel is lined with tombs and sarcophagi. Below, the stadium and remains of ramparts, an aqueduct, a three-arched building and baths.
