NYSSA ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE
The soothing landscape of this wooded hill and the absence of tourists make this visit attractive, which will focus on real archaeology lovers.
An archaeological site hidden in the mountains, in the middle of an olive grove, with a well preserved Roman theatre. Founded in the th century BC, Nyssa peaked in the Roman era. Strabon, who studied it, left us a detailed description of this city perched on the two slopes of a ravine.
Buried among olive trees, the theatre could contain about 5 000 spectators. It is still in excellent conservation condition because a 150 m tunnel prevented the water from the torrent from invading it. A few meters further in amount, is the bouleutêrion (Senate) restored by the Byzantine.
