DEPARTMENTAL CERAMICS MUSEUM
Musée départemental de la céramique, offering exhibitions of culinary ceramics and statuettes.
Housed in a magnificently restored 19th-century pottery factory, the museum immerses us in the archaeological wealth of Lezoux. This ancient Arverne town was one of the greatest ceramic production centers of the Roman Empire. The kilns of Lezoux's potters were used to make millions of bright red, finely decorated vases known as "sigillées". Archaeologists are still finding them today throughout much of Europe.
The museum has been awarded the Tourisme & Handicap label for all four types of disability, and is committed to making the museum accessible to all. It is also a winner of the "Osez le musée" award.
The museum's collections include not only sigillated ceramics, but also utilitarian ceramics, statuettes, tomb offerings and potters' tools.
The variety of exhibits and the fun, interactive museography make for an exciting visit for the whole family. A special tour has been designed for young visitors. Investigative games and guided tours are available to enhance the visit. During the school vacations, children's workshops such as modeling and mosaics are organized. Here, you can also practise kneading clay or play archaeologist by trying to guess the origin of a shard.
There's also a store where you can take home a souvenir of your visit.
