The Honorary Consulate of France in Manakara is an important point of contact for the French community in the region. Consular agencies can also be found in other towns in Madagascar, such as Antsirabe, Diégo-Suarez, Fianarantsoa, Majunga, Mananjary, Nosy Be, Sainte Marie, Sambava, Tamatave, Fort-Dauphin, Morondava and Tuléar. Honorary consuls are volunteers appointed for a renewable 5-year term. They play an essential role in listening to and handling situations relating to the civil status of French nationals. They also help to ensure the safety and information of French nationals in difficulty throughout the country.
