CASTLE RUINS
The castle of Marsat, 4 km west of Riom on the D83, was once a comfortable residence and a fortress of proud appearance.
Château de Marsat dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries. It was a comfortable residence and a proud fortress. In honor of François I, the lords decorated the château with his emblem - the salamander - when he visited in 1533. Remodeled in the 16th century, burnt down during the Wars of Religion and dismantled after the French Revolution, two towers and the bailey remain. Since 2010, the Société des Amis de Marsat and the municipality have been restoring and promoting the site. Cultural events are held there.
