CATHEDRAL OF SAINT-GUY
A particularly harmonious rotunda cathedral in Rijeka with a miraculous Gothic cross.
This rotunda cathedral is a unique example of monumental proportions in Croatia and is particularly harmonious. Its elevation began in 1638 according to the plans of the architect G. Briano on the model of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice. The interior is luxuriously Baroque and is rich in paintings by Slovenian and Italian artists (Petruzzi, Lazzarini, Pacassi and Michelazzi). A certain Petar Lončarić, angry at losing money gambling in 1296, is said to have thrown a stone at the crucifix, which began to bleed. The so-called miraculous Gothic cross is still there.
