Housed in the former Benčić industrial complex, this museum has become an important institution for culture and art in Rijeka.

The first Croatian Museum of Modern Art was founded in 1948 in the city's Governor's Palace. Since 2017, it has been located in the former sugar refinery, to become this large municipal museum. The permanent exhibition follows the palace's interior layout. Thirty rooms spread over two floors offer visitors a glimpse of Rijeka from the 18th to the 21st century, in its historical, economic, political, cultural, educational and scientific dimensions.
