BAŠKA TABLET (BAŠĆANSKA PLOČA)
Tablet from Baška in the monastery of St. Lucia with one of the first mentions of the Croatian language in Glagolitic inscription.
The island region has a founding historical heritage for the country's national identity. In 1851, at the monastery of St. Lucia, an engraved stone was discovered, known as the Baška tablet (Bašćanska Ploča), which dates back to 1100 A.D. It bears one of the earliest mentions of the Croatian language in Glagolitic inscription. You can see a copy in the small museum - the original is kept in Zagreb - as well as other ethnological objects from the island.
