BENEDICTINE MONASTERY OF SAINTS COMO AND DAMIEN
Monastery of a Benedictine community in Tkon, built on the foundations of an ancient Byzantine fort and an early Christian church.
Built on the top of the hill Čokovac by Bishop Theodorik in 1059, on the foundations of an ancient Byzantine fort and an early Christian church, the monastery originally housed a Benedictine community that owned all the surrounding land. In the 15th century, the Venetians expropriated the nuns from their retreat, who had to take refuge in Biograd. Finally back on the island in 1965, they settled in Tkon permanently.
