BENEDICTINE MONASTERY OF SAINTS COMO AND DAMIEN
Monastery of a Benedictine community in Tkon, built on the foundations of an ancient Byzantine fort and an early Christian church.
Built on top of the Ćokovac hill by Bishop Theodorik in 1059, on the foundations of an ancient Byzantine fort and early Christian church, this monastery was originally home to a Benedictine community that owned all the surrounding land. In the 15th century, the Venetians expropriated the nuns' retreat, forcing them to take refuge in Biograd. Finally returning to the island in 1965, they settled in Tkon for good.
