A superb abbey on the site of one of the oldest Benedictine monasteries in Auvergne, in the heart of the village of Menat.
In the heart of the village of Menat sits its abbey, discreet on the outside and yet superb, built in the 12th century on the site of one of the oldest Benedictine monasteries in Auvergne. In the following century, the abbey was renovated and reformed by Menelée, its patron saint, and then attached to the abbey of Cluny. Its Romanesque church was later fortified. From the Romanesque period, only the crossing of the transept and a portion of the three naves remain. Beautiful capitals reveal a Limousin influence, while the cloister gallery is mainly Gothic.
