PALAEONTOLOGY MUSEUM
Paleontology museum in Menat, offering discoveries on the site, and of scientific and educational interest.
Menat was built on the site of a maar, an ancient crater lake at the bottom of which, 56 million years ago, the remains of aquatic animals, plant debris and even land animals were deposited. Located in the town hall building, the paleontology room brings together the finest finds. The site is representative of an entire ecosystem, the oldest Tertiary deposit in France and the second oldest in Europe. In summer, the Paléovergne association organizes excavation workshops in the presence of paleontologists.
