PETAR HEKTOROVIĆ CASTLE
A well-preserved and sumptuous castle with personal notes written in Latin and Croatian on the interior walls.
Commissioned by the famous Dalmatian poet (1487-1572), the castle was built with the financial support of the island's nobles. The fortified edifice met the needs of the islanders, who wanted to protect themselves against the Ottoman threat. Perfectly restored, it retains its elegant power, with thick crenellated walls and semi-circular arches. The romantic trout pond was undoubtedly the inspiration for the author's masterpiece, Pêche et conversation de pêcheurs (1555).
