MUNICIPAL MUSEUM (GRADSKI MUZEJ)
Museum with collections of objects found during archaeological excavations, a workshop and a collection of kitchen utensils.
Located in the Gabrielis Palace, one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces in Korčula, dating from the 16th century. The building is on two floors and attic. In the past, the ground floor was used as a warehouse while the upper floors were reserved for residential use. The family coat of arms is depicted in relief in the centre of the balcony. Rebuilt several times, the municipal museum moved in in 1957. Inside, several collections through the ages, objects found on the island during archaeological excavations. In the first room, the island under Greek and Roman domination is already well filled. In the second room, the work of the stonemasons, with a reconstructed workshop of a 19th century craftsman, elaborate window frames, doors, capitals, coats of arms, decorative cornices and other elements from damaged or demolished buildings. Finally, a collection of kitchen utensils. On the first floor, underwater finds, Greek vases dating from the 3rd century BC, amphorae, etc. Finally, in the gallery on thesecond floor, there is a collection of Dalmatian art and culture, living room furniture and decorative objects dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In the attic there is a rustic kitchen, typical of the region. All these rooms make for a culturally and historically enriching visit to get to know Korčula better, which can be done with the whole family.
