Semi-cylindrical tower in Korčula endowed with the coats of arms of Agostino Barbarigo and named after the poet living next door.
At the northwestern end of the town, this semi-cylindrical tower bears the coats of arms of Agostino Barbarigo, a Venetian nobleman who was governor of the town in the 15th century, before becoming doge of Venice between 1486 and 1501. The tower, built between 1485 and 1488, is now named after Petar Kanavelić (1637-1719), a poet from Korčula whose birthplace was right next door. Elegant and singular, the kula is now bisected by an alley.
