STON SALT MARSHES (SOLANA STON)
Salt marshes still in activity known for their strategic importance, being among the oldest in the Mediterranean.
The oldest salt marshes in the Mediterranean still in use. Established in the time of the Dubrovnik Republic, they were of such strategic importance that a conscription was instituted obliging the citizens of Ragusa to come here to give a few hours of their time to help harvest the white gold. The salt was then transported from the port of Mali Ston. Nowadays, these salt works are trying to distinguish themselves by exploring the organic/craft industry.
