SAINT-BLAISE CHURCH
Baroque church of the 17th century dedicated to St. Blaise, patron saint of Dubrovnik, with a model of the city above the altar.
This superb Baroque church was designed and built by the Venetian architect Gropelli in 1715 on the model of the San Maurizio church in the Serenissima. Although modest, it is one of Dubrovnik's most important religious buildings. It is dedicated to St. Blaise, the city's Catholic patron saint, who is celebrated with great pomp and ceremony on February 3. Inside, above the altar, he holds a model of the city before the earthquake (1667). It's a precious testimony to an era of which few vestiges remain.
