SYNAGOGUE (SINAGOGA)
One of the oldest synagogues in Europe in Dubrovnik, dated 1352, holding remarkable pieces as its small museum.
Built in 1352, in an area that was once the Jewish ghetto, it is one of the oldest synagogues in Europe. A Sephardic Jewish community fleeing the Portuguese and Spanish Reconquest settled in Dubrovnik in the 15th century, where a decree in 1546 authorized their presence. Its members became prominent doctors, merchants and government officials... The synagogue and its small museum contain several remarkable pieces (13th century Torah, Menorah...). Today, the Jewish community of Ragusa has 55 members.
