FORT SAINT-JEAN (TVRĐAVA SV. IVAN)
One of Dubrovnik's most important defense points, the fort houses a maritime museum with collections of artifacts.
Founded in 1949, the Maritime Museum is housed in Fort St John (sv. Ivan), one of the most important defence points of the city, which historically guarded the entrance to the port. Its construction began in 1346 and was completed at the end of the 16th century. In the 19th century it was rebuilt on two floors, with windows in the artillery embrasures. The permanent collection tells the story of the region's naval past, dating back to antiquity. More than eleven thousand objects are classified in fifteen collections.
