Old foundry in the walls of the old town of Ragusa with ancient furnaces and cooling basins.
One of the very last secrets of old Ragusa is now open to the public: an old foundry housed within the walls of the old town. The Republic of Ragusa decreed the establishment of this industrial area in 1545, which was later heavily damaged by the earthquake of 1667. Recent excavations have uncovered its ancient furnaces and cooling ponds. A rewarding visit that opens the door to Ragusa's links with the rest of the world.
