RED HISTORY MUSEUM
Away from the old city, a brand new museum that takes you to Yugoslavia! Are you ready to get into a Yugo car?
In the district of Gruž, this new socio-historical museum, which will open to the public in early 2021, is the first of its kind in Croatia. In an old rehabilitated factory, it offers to immerse oneself in the daily life of the people who lived during the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia (FPRY), which was led by the Croatian-born communist Josip Broz, known as Tito. Visitors are invited to follow an interactive and multimedia tour, which provides a rather entertaining insight into the Croatian way of life during the socialist era - hence the name Red History Museum.
The tour begins with the opportunity to enter a Yugo car, the economic pride of the time! Then we enter the private sphere, the interior of the house, the kitchen-dining room, with all its manufactured objects, the living room, space for rest, reading and leisure, music on the radio, state news on television. Of course, the political life is largely evoked when the Marshal presided over the destiny of the country, when collectivism shaped the minds. This is the primary purpose of the museum, to explore the history of socialism in greater depth. Dress is suggested on mannequins, in photos and in the souvenir store, where you can buy T-shirts, bags, stationery, posters, mugs, etc. Recently, the museum has opened a small refreshment bar and an area for children. You can spend 1 or 2 hours there without getting bored. You will come out more educated!
