Born in Negovec near Vrbovec on March 2, 1873, Marija Jurić Zagorka lived her whole life in Zagreb. A woman of letters but also a woman of commitment, she fought against social discrimination, hungarization and the Germanization of the people. MJZ was also the first Croatian professional journalist. In 1896, she founded the first Croatian women's magazine, while writing novels, some of which were adapted for the cinema.
