This Spomenik, one of Croatia's most famous, built in 1966 by Serbian architect Bogdan Bogdanović in memory of the victims of WWII fascism, is an important point in understanding Croatian history. From 1941 to 1945, the site housed a concentration camp built by the ruling Ustasha (Ustaše ) regime. The museum (free of charge) traces the history of the camp and Jasenovac, pays tribute to the victims and explains the various facets of Croatian and Yugoslav history from 1941 to the present day.
