NATURAL PARK OF KOPAČKI LAUGHS
Park listed as a wetland of international importance. One of the largest freshwater areas in Europe.
Covering some 23,000 ha, this immense nature reserve is known as Europe's Little Amazon. Listed as a Wetland of International Importance in 1993, this nature park is one of the largest freshwater areas in Europe.
The day tour includes a walk on footbridges and a boat trip through the wetland. Other options include stops at Tito's Castle (Dvorac Tikveš), the hunting residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy (12 km from the entrance office), reached by tourist train through the woods. A 30 km road leads through part of the territory. A number of paths have been laid out to allow visitors to explore the countryside at their leisure.
The ambient humidity created by the presence of watercourses is conducive to animal diversity. The Kopacki Rit is home to over 291 species of birds and 44 species of fish. Attracted by the fish, migratory birds are numerous in early autumn. Cormorants, herons, terns, kingfishers, wild ducks... There are also some species rare in Europe, such as the black stork. You may also be lucky enough to spot a fox, a roe deer, a wild boar, an otter, a weasel or even a bear. In summer, the riverbanks are also home to non-venomous snakes. They hole up and wait for their prey - frogs galore, which they love!
