Every year since the restoration of democracy, the student revolt against the dictatorship of the colonels has been commemorated.

Every year on November 17, a major commemoration takes place at the Athens Polytechnic. On this date in 1973, students and other citizens occupied the university and revolted against the Colonels' dictatorship. Tanks entered the building, crushing several students. Since then, flowers have been laid in the grounds of the Polytechnic, and for three days, demonstrations and conferences have been organized.
