LE MARATHON D'ATHÈNES
Considered to be the most difficult marathon in the world, since athletes and participants have to run 10 km uphill over a total distance of 42 km, the race takes place every year in early November. Between the Marathon mound, a symbolic starting point, and the arrival at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, the runners surpass each other along the route modelled on the run of Phidippides, a Greek soldier who covered the same distance to announce the victory of the Greek army against the Persians at the Marathon battle in 490 B.C.
