50% of the museum is closed to the visitors. If you want a 50% refund for the ticket, you have to contact the museum director or the minister ofculture.It’sa joke.

Certainly a very interesting and complete exhibition of archeological artefacts and with descritions in english. However, half of the exhibits were unavailable, large sections of the building were closed down, alledgedly du to staff shortages. Not reasonable for a major national museum ????

Definitely worth visiting to see the pieces from across the region from various points in its vast history. Descriptions in English for almost every piece being exhibited. During our visit, several rooms were roped off and unavailable, although exhibits appeared to be in them. Easily reached by public transit or the multiple hop-on, hop-off buses. Admission fee not included in Athens multi-pass.

Nous avons été très déçus pour ce musée. La moitié des salles du musée sont fermées (23/04/2024). Lorsque j’ai posé la question on m’a répondu que c’était par manque de personnels pour surveiller les salles, sauf que personne ne nous averti à l’entrée. Le personnel sur place n’est pas du tout accueillant. Pour 12€, c’est exagéré, même s’il y a des choses intéressantes, après avoir arpentés la Grèce et les sites archéologiques avant, nous sommes sortis frustrés.

There was a lot not to like about this museum. Entry was chaotic and slow. In the museum there was poor signage and no assistance for visitors. Well over half the museum was closed. The Mycenaean gallery was very good...but that's about it. This place needs a complete redo.

Although I was eligible for free entry, they did not accept it and gave me the option of buying full price ticket, which I declined, specifically because of the attitude of the people working there, who did not bother to hear my reasoning. It’s a mess to even try to get in the museum even if you bought the tickets online and I waited in the queue for 15 minutes in the sun. Make sure you are mentally prepared for getting inside this museum to begin with.

Though several areas were blocked off there was plenty for the family to see. We spent about 2 hours walking through the exhibits which was plenty of time to appreciate the history of it all.

The exhibits are excellent.

However, there are a few major flaws to the museum: many of the exhibits are closed, supposedly because it was ‘closed for renovations’. This meant that I did not get to see some of the exhibits I wanted to despite paying full price.

Furthermore, some ‘sectors’ close earlier than the museum close time. No one was told prior that those ‘sectors’ of the museum would close early with several other people being disappointed. The staff never specified which rooms were included in the ‘sectors’. This lead me to believe only 1 room was closing early, which, although I was slightly disappointed was fine with. However it turned out that basically the entire wing of the right side of the building was shut down, meaning that I was unable to look at most of the Roman sculptures, which I was very much eager to see. This was really devastating as this was my last day in Athens and had to go on a plane shortly after.

Overall, these flaws felt like a scam, a slight waste of time, as I was going to spend the majority of the day there, and waste of the exhibit’s potential.

The museum should really take into consideration of their viewer’s experience in the museum.

Absolutely huge museum with loads of pieces.

Because it is so big I would prefer if it had a recommended path you can follow. We had to go back and forth so many times in order to pass through all the sections.

Muchas de las salas estaban cerradas. Las salas llenas a rebosar. No hay casi información. El museo necesita mejorar mucho en su atención al ciudadano y en cómo transmiten la información que se queda escasa en todo momento.

Only about two thirds of the museum is open so I could not see many of the exhibits I wanted to see. The staff are unhelpful and do not seem to know where anything is.

Overall if you only had time for one museum in greece, this would be it. Has more stuff than the acropolis museum and most of the good artifacts from around greece has been placed here. The museum is kinda old and could use some updating to make it more interactive and comparable to other museums around the world.

Bien se renseigner sur les horaires d’ouverture
Musée fermé le matin ou nous avions prévu de nous y rendre alors que le site internet annonçait son ouverture. Dommage

A faire absolument!

Très imposant musée, riche en objets et vestiges de l'ancienne Grèce. Une petite section égyptienne avec des objets funéraires. Une cafétéria dans un patio ombragé permet de faire une pause.
