Created in 1834, this museum is one of the first public museums in the city, along with the Archaeological Museum, and one of the largest in the world in terms of the number of its collections. It traces the history of the country since antiquity through some 600,000 objects, in a beautifully restored setting designed by the architect Ernst Ziller. The museum houses prestigious numismatic collections of great historical value dating from the 14th century BC to the present day. It also has an impressive collection of seals and medals.
