MUSÉE DE LA CULTURE MODERNE GRECQUE
Crossing the threshold of this new museum is like stepping into another era. The 18 19th-century buildings have been completely restored and refurbished to house the collections. The whole complex overlooks a beautiful inner courtyard, just like the Plaka of yesteryear. Of these buildings, 11 house collections classified under different themes. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire superb and rare collections, with the possibility of learning more about their wider and complementary context, thanks to digital applications. The objects on display are suspended so that visitors can observe them from different angles, thus gaining a more global approach and a less rigid vision of the history represented by all these objects.
The collections, renewed from 3,000 objects, currently comprise 25,000. Everything that concerns and touches human life in 19th-century Greece has found its place in these collections: daily life, religion, economics, crafts, culture, manners and customs. The mission of this museum is to draw strength from a modern museographic approach, highlighting the stages of a history so close and yet so little known to the Greece of yesteryear, in order to enrich the present and build the future on an anthropocentric axis. A visit highly recommended.
