Hill sheltering a temple dedicated to Zeus.
Wherever you are in Athens, you can see this 277-metre-high hill. At its foot lies the entire city, including the Acropolis. Lycabetta was once dominated by a temple dedicated to Zeus, but today Aghios Georgios crowns the mountain. Athena, wanting to be closer to heaven, would have fetched a large boulder from Mount Pentele and placed it on the Acropolis. But as bad omens foretold misfortune if she went through with her project, she decided to leave the rock in the middle of Athens..
