AVEROFF CRUISER
Museum ship that was the flagship of the Greek navy. The visit also includes a reconstruction of an ancient trier.
This museum ship (Θωρηκτό Αβέρωφ/Thorikto Averoff) has been moored at Paleo Faliro since 1984. She is a 140m-long battleship cruiser built in Italy in 1910, and was the flagship of the Greek navy until 1952. It played an important role in the First Balkan War (1912-1913) and owes its name to the foundation of the wealthy Aroumain Georgios Averoff (1815-1899) of Metsovo, who financed its purchase. The tour includes three other ships, including the reconstruction of an ancient Athenian trier (galley).
