In this Greek landscape of clear earth and olive trees, the mound of the Athenians, the tomb of the dead from the famous battle of Marathon, silently rises up, keeping the ashes of the 192 Greek soldiers who died and were cremated at the very place of the battle. The site has changed and, of course, it takes a lot of imagination to imagine the battle, but one can help oneself to the white marble stele made by a warrior of the time. It is a copy: the original is on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
