12-metre-high tumulus containing the ashes of 192 Athenian soldiers who died in the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC.

This small archaeological site (Τύμβος Αθηναίων Μαραθωνομάχων/Tymvos Athinaion Marathonomachon) houses the 12m-high tumulus where the ashes of the 192 Athenian soldiers who died in the battle of Marathon against the Persians in 490 BC were placed. The eleven soldiers from the allied city of Plataea who died on the same day were buried in a 3 m-high tumulus near the present-day Marathon Archaeological Museum. The replica of the battle's trophy column is located near the Schinias Olympic Center.
