OLD ELEUSIS OIL MILL
The former Eleusis soap factory hosts a number of cultural events in summer, including the Aeschylus theater festival.
This cultural site (Παλαιό Ελαιουργείο/Palaio Elaiourgio) occupies the Charilaou factory, which from 1875 to 1960 produced Eleusis soap, a great competitor of Marseille soap. Refurbished with an outdoor theater, it hosts several summer events, including a festival named in honor of the Eleusian-born tragedian Aeschylus (525-426 BC). The building stands on the shores of the Gulf of Eleusis, home to Greece's largest ship cemetery.
