PANORAMA IN TOLO
Remains of a 7 km-long wall built by the Byzantines across the Isthmus of Corinth in the century.
This 7 km-long wall (Εξαμίλιο τείχος/Examilio Tichos) was built across the Isthmus of Corinth by the Byzantines in the5th century to protect the land entrance to the Peloponnese. Its name derives from its (theoretical) length of "six Roman miles": 7,728 m. Several sections of the structure remain, comprising two gates, 153 towers and walls 7 m high and 3 m thick. A fairly well-preserved 110 m section can be seen along the road between Corinth and the Isthmus bridge.
