OSIOS PATAPIOS MONASTERY
Founded in 1952, it houses a grotto with frescoes. Magnificent views over Loutraki and the Gulf of Corinth.
Perched 550 m above sea level on the slopes of the Geranian Mountains, this female monastery (Ιερά Μονή Οσίου Παταπίου/Iera Moni Osiou Patapiou) offers grandiose views over Loutraki and the Gulf of Corinth. It was founded in 1952 at the entrance to the grotto where the relics of 4th-century Saint Patapios of Thebes were discovered in 1902, sheltered here during the fall of Constantinople in 1453. The grotto is decorated with 15th-century frescoes and houses the wooden reliquary of Saint Patapios. Next door, the modern church is richly decorated.
