AGIOS SPYRIDONAS CHURCH OF NAUPLIA
On leaving this church (1702), Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of independent Greece, was assassinated in 1831.
This church (Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Σπυρίδωνα/Ieros Naos Agiou Spyridona) was erected in 1702, during Nafplio's second Venetian period (1685-1715). Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of independent Greece, was assassinated here on September 27, 1831 by the Mavromichalis clan of Magne. A sign at the entrance describes this episode, which shook the young state. Nice little square next door, and the Komboloi Museum just to the south, on Straïkopoulou Street.
