Built in 1714, this church stands beside the old olive tree on which Nafplio's patron saint was hanged in 1655.

The Church of the Birth of the Mother of God (Ιερός Ναός Γενεσίου της Θεοτόκου/Ieros Naos Genesiou tis Theotokou), also known as the Panagia, is an important place of devotion: it stands beside the old olive tree on which, in 1655, Anastasius of Nafplio, the city's patron saint, was hanged. Built on the foundations of a 15th-century church, it was completed in 1714. The narthex (1834) and belfry (1907) were added later. Richly carved wooden iconostasis from 1811.
