This Arcadian Riviera castle (Κάστρο Παράλιου Άστρους/Kastro Paraliou Astrous) sits on a hill above the port of Paralio Astros (population approx. 1,000), offering fine views over the Bay of Portes and the Argolic Gulf. Built by the Venetians in the 17th century, it was occupied from 1824 by the Zafiropoulos family, involved in trade with Marseille and the War of Independence. The beaches of Atsigganos to the north and Portes to the south.
