PARALIA TYROU VILLAGE
Village in a bay with beach, hotels and restaurants. Beautiful views from the hill of the ancient sanctuary of Apollo Tyritia.
This village on the Arcadian Riviera (Παραλία Τυρού) enjoys a superb setting, in a wide bay beneath the foothills of Mount Parnon. An ancient Spartan port, it takes its name from the sanctuary of Apollo Tyritia ("of cheese") erected in the 6th century BC on a hilltop 540 m above sea level. The site (8 km to the south by a small road) is occupied by a chapel (1911) and offers fine views over the island of Spetses and the Argolic Gulf. The village has around 780 inhabitants and several hotels and restaurants along the main beach.
