Housed in a neoclassical villa, this museum (Κουμαντάρειος Πινακοθήκη/Koumantarios Pinakotheki) is an annex of the National Gallery of Athens. It brings together the collection of Spartan amateur Ioannis Koumantarios (1894-1981): 82 paintings and 11 sculptures by Greek artists of the 19th to 20th centuries, including Athena and Artemis by the naive painter Theophilos and cool contemporary canvases by Gaïtis, Fassianos and Chatzikyriakos-Ghikas. Also on view: 14 foreign works, including a late-Renaissance painting by Carlo Caliari.
