On the edge of Diros Bay, these caves (Σπήλαια Διρού/Spilaia Dirou) are superb, with an underground lake and chambers of beautiful pink and red concretions. For safety reasons, the route varies according to water levels: from 1,200 to 1,500 m in length, most of it by boat (25-minute guided tour). Nearby: parking lot often full in summer (best to come early in the morning), café-restaurant (in season), monument to the Maniote women who took part in the War of Independence and small beach.
