AGII APOSTOLI CHURCH OF KALAMATA
It comprises two adjoining churches: one built in 1080 and the other dating from the centuries.
This church dedicated to the Apostles (Ιερός Ναός των Αγίων Αποστόλων/Ieros Naos ton Agion Apostolon) consists of two adjoining churches: the part topped by the bell tower was built from 1080 onwards, and the main part dates from the 17th/18th centuries. The 16th/17th-century frescoes were damaged by the 1986 earthquake. The church is famous for having hosted a large liturgy (mass) of the insurgents against the Ottomans, on March 23, 1821.
