This museum (Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Μεσσηνίας/Archaiologiko Mousio Messinias) is housed in the old market in the bustling district of Kalamata. Objects from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages: seated divinity of Malthi (c. 5,000 BC), Mycenaean jewelry and seals (16th-12th centuries BC), Roman mosaics... The centerpiece is a bronze fishtail horse (6th-5th century BC) from the temple of Poseidon at Akovitika, 3 km to the southwest.
