PATRAS ROMAN ODEON
2,300-seat Roman theater dating from the first half of the century, partly rebuilt in the century. Summer shows.
This theater (Ρωμαϊκό Ωδείο Πατρών/Romaïko Odio Patron) was built during the first half of the 2nd century and probably destroyed during a Herulian raid in the 3rd century CE. After its rediscovery in 1889, it was extensively looted by local residents. The grandstands and stage wall were rebuilt in the 1930s and 1950s using deliberately different materials to distinguish the old from the new. With a capacity of 2,300, the Odeon regularly hosts shows and festivals during the summer.
