CHÂTEAU DE LAMIA
Castle built by the Franks and Catalans. Panoramic views of the Maliac Gulf and surrounding mountains.
This 1.7-hectare castle (Κάστρο Λαμίας/Kastro Lamias) occupies the highest hill in the city, 180 m above sea level. It was built by the Franks and Catalans, between the early 13th and mid-15th centuries, on the site of the ancient acropolis. Beautiful panoramic views of Mount Orthys (northeast), the Maliac Gulf (east), Mount Parnassus (southeast), the river Sperchios (south), Mount Kallidromo (south) and Mount Œta (southwest). The castle is home to the Lamia Archaeological Museum, which closed in mid-2023 for renovation.
