With the coming arrival of spring, the desire to go away for a weekend to enjoy the sun is growing in the minds. In the hope that sanitary measures will become more flexible with the arrival of fine weather, and noting that European travellers are allowed to move around the countries of the Union under cover of measures that differ from one country to another (negative PCR test, quarantine, etc.), everyone has the freedom to think of a destination that would please him or her to put the towel on the sand, test the temperature of the water, get some colour and stroll through pretty alleyways. Here are 10 sunny destinations in Europe for an extended and resourcing weekend

1- Rovinj, Croatia

For some time now, Croatia has had the wind in its sails with those who wish to treat themselves to a sunny break in Europe. Today we are heading for a town that is less well-known than other famous Croatian seaside resorts: Rovinj. Situated on the west coast of Istria, it is reminiscent of the charms of Venice. It is pleasant to get lost in the colourful alleys of the historic centre, before stopping at the foot of the sublime St. Euphemia Cathedral. The pleasant beach of Škaraba is 3 km from the centre and when evening comes, there is nothing like stopping at the main breakwater along the marina to admire the sunset over the Adriatic

2- Rhodes, Greece

The Greek islands are perfect for a sunny getaway in Europe. On the island of Rhodes, you start by strolling through the medieval old town of the eponymous city. It is one of the largest and best preserved fortified cities in Europe. A second stop takes place on the magnificent Tsambika beach. Indeed, how can you imagine a trip to Greece without the pleasure of sitting on the sand and swimming? A tip in the area: climb the steps on the hillside to go and see the ministry of Tsambika and enjoy a sublime panorama of the coast. For history lovers, go to the ancient site of Kamiros and to rediscover the charms of the Greek cities with their white houses, a stop in Lindos is a must.

3- Tenerife, Canary Islands

Tenerife is the most famous of the Canary Islands and a small paradise on Earth, off the African coast. After taking the time to wander around the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife to do a little shopping, make way for nature, under the sun. Tenerife has pleasant temperatures throughout the year. These conditions are ideal for hiking and trying to climb the Teide volcano, the highest in Spain, but also for reaching the beaches, which are always a great adventure in Tenerife. Taganana and Tacoronte are beautiful beaches where you can sit and bask in the sun. And to plunge into the history of the island and that of its first inhabitants, a tour to the pyramids of Guimar is to be programmed during the stay.

4- Madeira, Portugal

Madeira is a Portuguese island located in the heart of the archipelago of the same name. It is a must-see spot for an extended weekend in the sun in Europe. Its climate is indeed favourable for long outdoor walks, and swimming moments, such as those that take place in the natural pools made of rocks and lava of Porto Moniz. For lovers of hiking under the blue sky, there is nothing like organizing an expedition to the top of Pico Ruivo, the highest point on the island. The panorama offered over the land and sea is simply delicious. And then, you should not miss a walk through Funchal, the capital. Its historic centre and markets are all reasons to pack your bags.

5- Limassol, Cyprus

It's simple, Cyprus is the warmest and sunniest country on the European continent. It is therefore a favourite territory for those who wish to take some colour on an extended weekend. On a stopover in the city of Limassol, one can enjoy contemplating the architecture of the English colonial buildings and strolling through the workshops of Turkish craftsmen. It is also worth noting that it has managed to preserve its Cypriot identity. Limassol is a prime destination for spending time at the beach, with the sun shining brightly and beautiful beaches not far from the city. One thinks of Pissouri or Kourion, more family oriented.

6- Parga, Greece

Located on the west coast of Greece, Parga is a town not to be missed to enjoy the sun and the sea. It forms a natural amphitheatre around a charming little port. It is good to stroll through the narrow streets to observe the old houses. The small narrow streets also reveal charming little shops for shopping moments. It is also necessary to go to make a turn on the side of the fortress to plunge in the history. The dives into the sea take place in translucent waters. The beaches of Lichnos and Valtos are a must for relaxing and sunbathing.

Situated in the province of La Spezia, Lerici is a pleasant city to stay for a few days in Italy. On arriving in the city, it is possible to start with an escapade at the foot of the 12th century castle, which dominates Lerici at one end of the bay. We then cross what corresponds to the old Jewish quarter. Then, a stroll through the historical centre is a must, with the discovery of pretty streets and emblematic monuments such as the church of San Francesco and the oratory of San Rocco. On sunny days, the weather is also often favourable for spending time on the beaches and in the evening, a stroll along the waterfront is a must, for the atmosphere and the view of the boats.

8- Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Back to the Canary Islands, but this time on the small island of Lanzarote. This volcanic island attracts for its lunar landscapes and for the multiplicity of experiences offered. Under blue skies and pleasant temperatures all year round, one is always eager to walk and contemplate the desert and volcanic landscapes of the Timanfaya National Park. Always with a volcanic spirit, an expedition to Los Hervideros allows you to observe the waves coming to collide with the seashore made of dried lava. There are also a multitude of charming typical villages to discover in Lanzarote: Los Coconut palms or Orzola. On the beach side, direction Papagayo for swimmers, and Famara for surfers.

9- Marsaxlokk, Malta

Malta is undoubtedly another European destination to be favoured for a weekend in the sun. And to enjoy a town with authentic architecture, you have to go to Marsaxlokk, a true haven of peace in the south-west of the island. Its waterfront is picturesque and we like to discover and admire its colourful houses, its fishing port and its luzzi. On Sundays, along the docks, the market attracts visitors in large numbers who come to stock up on fish, seafood and fresh vegetables. Ancient history buffs also enjoy visiting the archaeological site of Tas Silg, located to the east of the town

10- Trapani, Sicily

The city in the west of Sicily is full of treasures. Its history goes back a long way, to the 13th century B.C.E., and its architecture can be seen to have many influences. To see beautiful monuments, head for the San Lorenzo Cathedral and the Ligny Tower. The latter is located near the sea. Change the atmosphere with a walk in the nature reserve of the Trapani saltworks. After a stroll among the salt dunes, head for the Nubia museum to learn more about salt extraction systems through the ages. It also takes place in a beautiful mill. Another day, an expedition to the Aegade Islands from Trapani promises to see charming fishermen's houses, Roman shipwrecks and a beautiful azure cove, that of Favignana
