PARGA CASTLE
Fourteenth century castle overlooking Parga with a view of it and the gulf.
Majestic, it dominates the city. It was founded in the middle of the 14th century and erected on this piece of rock inaccessible by the Pargiotes with the help of the Normans who, at that time, ruled the Ionian Islands. Destroyed and rebuilt by the Venetians during the four centuries of occupation, it was demolished again by Ali Pasha in 1819. A short walk on this side is an opportunity to enjoy a superb view of the city and the Gulf. To be recommended at sunset. It can be reached from the port by steps that go up and into the pine forest.
