MONTPEYROUX, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE IN FRANCE
Fortified village on the banks of the Allier, known for its steep streets, restored houses and imposing keep.
This village, once fortified and a protected site since 1976, is built on a hill on the banks of the Allier. The arkose quarries have sustained the Mont de Pierre for years, as well as the production of wine. Its light-coloured houses lining the steep streets have been restored. Artists and craftsmen have taken up residence here, while others have chosen the place as a second home. The keep dominates the village. Built in the 13th century, it is 33 m high!
